Hyundai Motor India Ltd records highest ever sales

Hyundai Motor India Ltd, the country’s second largest car manufacturer and the largest passenger car exporter for the first time since 1998 when the Santro rolled out saw cumulative sales peak at a record 53,804 units in September, 2009. After months of slowdown the domestic market buoyed by the strong festive season sales recorded a high growth rate of 25% after months of fluctuating sales. The overseas sales grew at a modest 9% as the export market slowed down with the scrappage incentive coming to an end in most European markets. HMIL’s total sales for September, 2009 stood at 53,804 units against 46,218 units in September, 2008. The domestic sales accounted for 27,803 units as against 22,311 units in September, 2008 while the overseas sales grew from 23,907 units last September to 26,001 units in September, 2009. Commenting on September, 2009 sales Arvind Saxena, Sr. Vice President - Marketing and Sales, HMIL said, “The sales for the month of September were promising as we not only recorded the highest figures in our 11 years of operations but also this year the festive season has been encouraging as customers returned to the showroom. We hope that this will be the turning point for the automotive industry and if sales remain strong during the coming Diwali then we can look at double digit growth figures for the current year”. New Hyundai car sales rise

Hyundai dealers should be celebrating after beating the company’s best ever annual sales total and selling more cars in a single month than ever before. But they’re not being allowed to relax as another ship full of cars has just arrived and is being rushed out to waiting customers.
The Korean carmaker sold 11,031 cars in September 2009, up from 4,970 in the same month last year. The figure is the best ever single sales month in Hyundai UK’s history, and pushed the company’s total sales in 2009 to 40,578 - passing the previous total annual sales record of 37,611 from 2004.
Tony Whitehorn, Hyundai’s managing director, said: “This result is incredible given that we still have a quarter of the year remaining. Demand for our cars is unrelenting. We could have sold twice as many in September, but we simply ran out of cars and time. There are more ships arriving now, all full of our most popular models, and we are rushing them out to customers as fast as we can!”
As you would expect, Tony Whitehorn has welcomed the extension to the scrappage scheme announced last week. He said: “Thousands of people in the UK recognise that scrappage is a very special offer and have snapped it up. They will now continue to do so well into the new year, and the offer has been opened up to owners of younger cars and vans. With the economy still fragile and the VAT increase on its way, the industry and consumers needed this extra confidence going into the new year.”

The Sonata becomes the i40

Hyundai launched a sixth-generation Sonata in Korea, but that car was never intended for the European market. Both design and name have been changed for its European debut in scheduled for 2011. According to reports, the vehicle will be called the i40 and will only be available as an estate car. Hyundai i20 Diesel to Launch

The Hyundai i20 hatchback will now be available in a diesel version by next week.
Unlike the i10, the i20 diesel will be targeted at the B or B+ segment customers. The Hyundai i20 is the designated replacement for the Getz, but not in India though.

The i20 draws inspiration from the i30 hatchback. The car features a low-slung grill, large headlamps and cool sporty round fog lamps. The steep raked wind screen flows smoothly and merges with a novel tail section. The upright tailgate means you have more bootspace for luggage too. Hyundai i10 Diesel Car Coming to India by 2010 First of the year

Encouraged by the great response received for the petrol version of i10, Hyundai is moving a step ahead with the launch of a diesel variant Hyundai i10; reported CNBC-TV 18. Hyundai i10 diesel will be fitted with a 1.1 L CRDi engine which is likely to offer improved fuel efficiency and improved drivability due to the engine's higher torque output as compared to the petrol version.The launch will qualify the company for small car excise norms and each car's transmission will be constructed in the Chennai plant. The engine would be sourced from its parent company in South Korea. The official company spokesperson declined to comment on the details.Hyundai has a market share slightly more than 20% in the passenger cars segment in India and is likely to improve it to 25% by 2012. In a bid to expand the existing portfolio it is looking at launching new products. It was earlier reported that Hyundai Motor India Ltd would set up its existing car manufacturing plant at Sriperumbudur near Chennai in Tamil Nadu.'Live Mint' newspaper, quoted an anonymous source and claimed that the Indian arm of the Korean automaker is likely to invest at least Rs. 500 crore to construct a factory that would have an installed capacity to manufacture around 100,000 engines. This complied with India's second largest passenger carmaker's aim to manufacture diesel variants of its existing models like Hyundai i10 and Hyundai i20 in the country and save the car's cost by around 15-20%.At present, the Indian arm of the Korean automaker has a petrol engine plant which makes Kappa and Gamma engine strapped onto models like the Hyundai i10 city (Kappa version) car and Hyundai i20 super-hatch.
